Making star trails?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I can take exposures up to 60 seconds with my camera, but this only gives me 60 seconds worth of star trails. I was wondering if there is a way to extend the trails, with a program possibly? I would do it by taking lots of 60 second exposures, but my camera takes one 60 second photo, and then has to spend 60 more seconds processing the image, thus not allowing continuous shooting of long exposures.

with NR turned off it is worthwhile shooting a handful of darks i.e same exposure but with the lens cap on taken at the same time as the main sequence. Startrails.exe will then use the darks to improve the quality of the final image. Also preset the white balance to a daylight setting and preset the iso to manual say 400-800 to avoid changes in exposure.
