Deep Sky Stacker Question...

Been experimenting with the above software, getting good results with the moon.

What would be the minimum number of frames I should take with the Canon D60 DSLR of say Andromeda to get good results?

I would think 10@30 seconds + 10@1min + 5@ 3mins

Now that will give you a great image.

I didn't think DSS would work on the planets / moon. Be interested in the results Greg!

For info, my recent M31 was 30 x 40 secs, which I stacked in DSS

Steve's lunar image which won SGLPOD was a stacke image from DSS.

About 8 images.

It's the deep sky stuff i'm struggling with

As I've tried M31 with the Canon I would agree with Jamie. Don't stack them all together though do them in batches according to the exposure time.

DSS is not supposed to work for the moon or planets but I gave it a go.

It did a reasonably good job on the moon but there was more noise in the image than the same with Registax.

Steve might have had an even better image with Registax !

I find that it loses some of the colour, not sure why at the moment!

The amount of colour varies - it seems to be better on 16 bit TIF's than 8 bit JPG's

We stacked the RAWS in DSS, Regitax won't do RAWs or will it??

Greg - No Registax doesn't do RAW's, which is a pain TBH!!

MD - I find it loses colours from the RAW's - perhaps I'll try converting them to 16 bit TIFFS and see what happens.
