Life before digital / laptop etc

Hi All

As I am just started to do a little basic astrophotography was just thinking how easy it is to do these days, just a case of getting a suitable webcam/camera laptop and a few good free programs for capture stacking etc all stuff we take for granted really

How difficult was it to do before all this digital stuff etc

was it a case of filling up your 35mm film camera taking it to boots and waiting to see what comes out ?

And what about stacking frames etc was that even possible with film or was a different teqnique altogether used

Is there anyone here that used to have to do it the old way if so have you got any 35mm piccys that may now be on your pc that you could show us

Not that I've done it, but stacking was literally a case of stacking negatives and printing onto the same print... lot of work making sure properly aligned, etc.
