Hi Jsmbshp and welcome to the group :D

The CPC 800 is a teriffic scope - excellent optics and sound tracking. Superb for viewing everything - if you want to do AP though you'll need a wedge and a reducer for dso's. However alt/az is fine for planetary pics - I wouldn't sell mine for anything (apart from a bigger CPC of course)

Welcome! I am just up the road nr Lewes. You should get some nice views from the pier in Hastings - lots of dark sky without sky pollution!

I would also say have a look at a Goto Dob if you are wanting to spend out on a scope - nice and easy to use and better suited for DSO's (larger aperature.)

SCT's are really long focal length planetary scopes, although they do do very well for visual use too. If you want to get into imaging in the future, then a Refractor is a good bet, but expensive for larger aperatures!

If you fancy venturing a little further, Eastbourne Astronomical Society is a good meet.

Cheers,

Richie
