Some more shots from holliday to France (M52/M16/NGC7023)

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

Here are some other shots I managed during my holiday to the beautifull and dark Southern France (Nyons to be exact).

M52 + bubble: Shot on the night of 27/28-07-2010 under near full moon (ISO 1600, 12x 5 min/6 dark/20 bias/20 flats).

M16: Shot on the night of 30/31-07-2010 partly under 75-80% moon (ISO 1600, 18x 5 min /6 dark/20 bias/20 flats).

NGC7023: Shot on the night of 30/31-07-2010 under 75-80% moon (ISO 1600, 12x 5 min /6 dark/20 bias/20 flats).

All captured with the equipment shown below and Nebulosity 2.3, stacked with DSS and post-processed with CS (levels/curves/Gradient Xterminator/Saturation).

Also added a single shot of the nearly full moon on the night of the M52 shot for illustration of the conditions.

I've also added a reprocessed version of my earlier posted M33 which shows much more colour then before.

In the end I am very pleased with these shots, especially considering the moon conditions. Unforunately I'll have to wait until next year for these really dark skies as we have returned home.

Regards Tim

A great set of shots Tim. The Iris is particularly strong shot, though I don't think I would have been spending much time on targets in the northern MW with Sagittarius etc on offer!!

I know, but unfortunately the campsite where we were staying was on a mountain ridge and didn't offer a clear view towards the South and South-West due to trees. So most of the beautifull Southern objects started to disapear in the trees, and as I am currently still in need of 230V AC for my power supply moving to a better viewing spot was not possible. In addtion, being there in the 2 weeks arround full moon (I know bad timing :p ) also made imaging in the lower South nearly impossible. So I just made the best of it and shot a nice Southern object early in the night and then moved to other objects I hadn't image yet from my home.
