EQ6 Altitude Adjustment Bolt

Bent Altitude Adjustment Bolt.

The designer of the HEQ6 must live between 40 deg N and 40 deg S.

The altitude adjustment bolts don’t bend within these latitudes because

the method of adjustment just about works.

If you live anywhere above or below these latitudes you get a bent bolt.

I have managed to cut a recess in the casting using a Dremel and a tile cutter

bit. The casting quality is very poor, so cutting was easy.

The South facing adjuster screw now has a flatter surface on which to grip instead of

sliding downwards and bending.

I also think a flatter end to the bolt would be better. A rounded end just makes matters worse.

The attached photo hopefully show how I managed it.

Yes its a poor design, mine bent very quickly with 4 x 5kg counterweights and 2 scopes on it. I epoxyed a piece of 4mm steel plate either side of the casting as the soft alloy casting itself was causing the bolts to dig in rather than slide which is what the bending is caused by. I also replaced the bolts with HT versions.
