TOMMOROW'S WORLD WILL ARRIVE IN TOWN TODAY!

An exciting and inovative programme of science talks will take place over the next six months in East Kilbride.

The science programme is the result of a partnership between South Lanarkshire Council's Community Learning Service, Glasgow University and Scottish Enterprise Lanarkshire.

Dr. Ravi Singhal will be delivering the talks, each one lasting for 50 minutes.

All the talks have been specifically designed to improve awareness of the place sciences occupy within local communities and to highlight the role science plays in everyday life.

No previous knowledge of science is required and everyone is welcome to come along and attend the talks.

A spokesperson for the organisers said all the talks are most suitable for secondary pupils and adults of any age.

Chair of south Lanarkshire COuncil's education resources committee, Councillor Mary Smith, said:

"The talks will be entertaining as well as being informative and thought-provoking for all attending. We are hoping to attract as many people as possible to the talks and guarantee there will be something for everyone, from the beginner to the expert.

We are delighted Dr Singhal has agreed to share his expertise with the local community withing South Lanarkshire area."

Dr. Singhal has taught Physics and Astronomy in Glasgow University since 1970. He has lived in East Kilbride since coming to Scotland and feels particularly keen to contribute something to the local community.

All talks will be on Saturday mornings and start at 11am.

The first will be on October 28 and the venue is the James Watt Lecture Room in East Kilbride Technology Park.

Hi Paul,

Good news indeed.

You and other Central Scottish Astronomers may want to look up the DACE site - A "Dark Skies" weekend and several "Day Courses" on subjects such as "Eclipses and transits" - Helen Fraser, Martin Hendry et al, "Cosmologies" - Norman Gray, Kieth Hammond et al. All run by Alec MacKinnon - senior lecturer in Astronomy with Dept. Adult and Continuing Education (DACE) - Glas and Strathclyde Universities.
