Following yesterday's greyout, only a short window of very poor conditions this afternoon, a couple of 15 minute intervals with the sun shining through high level cloud - cirrocumulus in the first interval giving bad seeing and very rapidly changing transparency, thick cirrostratus in the second giving poor contrast.

Even the CaK full disk image was hard to focus:

1436 UT. Coronado PST CaK, prime focus, DMK41

Close ups of the two plage areas were obtained in the second interval:

Sun-100709-1544-CaK-ARNE-X25.jpg

1544 UT. Lunt 60mm, B1200 CaK diagonal, 2.5x Powermate, DMK21

Sun-100709-1541-CaK-ARNW-X25.jpg

1541 UT. Lunt 60mm, B1200 CaK diagonal, 2.5x Powermate, DMK21

Both of these plage areas contained small sunspots. Somehow I managed to obtain a rather scruffy white light image of the NE group:

1442 UT. WO FLT 110, Lunt solar wedge, 2.5x Powermate, DMK21

I also imaged the NW group, the small single spot shows up in many of the raw frames but the image processing software was unable to lock on to it, probably due to the rapidly varying transparency & bad seeing. (I tried 2 versions of Registax as well as Avistack).

I also obtained a poor quality Ha overview shot: poor contrast due to the cirrostratus (which increased exposure to 4x normal) and only the very bright double spike prominence on the NW limb is visible.

1553 UT. Solarscope 60, 0.5x focal reducer, DMK41

Transparency poor & variable. Seeing poor to bad. Temperature 19C, wind NW force 3.
