Astronomy Now - website AWOL

Recommended Posts

Looks like someone has forgotten to renew their domain name :D

Astronomy Now Online (currently pointing to a domain parking page).

I hope they aren't in trouble and that this is just the result of some common-or-garden forgetfulness...

Glad to hear that the mag is OK, but...

The website is still missing - there has been a change to the DNS settings because they haven't renewed their domain subscription. Here's some of the whois data for astronomynow.com

Record expires on 10-May-2015.

Record created on 09-May-1997.

Database last updated on 17-May-2010 15:02:07 EDT.

Notice that it was last updated on 17th May - the reason some of you are seeing the original page is that the web server is still running, but the DNS record is no longer point to it. As the DNS system updates over the next day or so, it will go bad for more people. For me, an NSLOOKUP on www. astronomynow. com gets a result of 209.62.105.19 - those of you who are seeing the real page will be getting a different result.

Upshot is, they need to renew their domain registration first thing tomorrow :D

ps - this is what I see...

In contact with the editorial team at AN on daily basis as I am now officially on the "staff" list as the equipment consultant, if that helps clarify why I know the state of play

:D

Ok, sorry folks, I have tracked it down to the website having a dodgy DNS record with my ISP (BE broadband). Every other DNS server I try has the correct record.

Sorry for causing a stir - genuinely thought there was something wrong globally rather than just for me.

I will crawl back under my rock now...

Not an issue at all, good to get a heads up on any worries, as it keeps us on our toes

Spoke to them, there was an issue at the weekend which has been fixed but it looks like some ISP's have cached copies of the **** up...
