Solar activity from 7 May

Finally managed to process the solar images from last friday. Quite pleased with the results considering the focus was manually accomplished by sliding the draw tube in/out without aid of the crayford focuser due to a missing locking screw! A makeshift screw was fit to lock down the focus when reached.... Also, very turbulent atmosphere didn't help! Each of these are comprised of approx 200-300 individual avi movie files aligned and stacked. Some are composites of two separate avi files exposed for either the surface detail or the prominences, some are single avi files processed to separately enhance the surface or prominence then blended. Equipment: Lunt 60, Skynyx 2.1M and Coronado 2x barlow as required.

Must be my eyes then, focus looks sadly soft on all of them, especially for skynyx set of shots, if you ramp up the mag even higher can you get tack sharp focus?

Hi Nick,

You are correct. With the crayford focuser inoperable, I was unable to minutely fine tune the focus by sliding the draw tube then locking it down. No focusing aid was possible to use unfortunately. Still trying to locate the focus screw for the crayford that ships with the Lunt 60. The scope was bought used and I read that the scope ships with the screw not installed as a matter of course but tucked away in the case. I've yet to find it and trying to locate one from Lunt. With this, I hope to achieve pin sharp focus. Under the circumstances, pleased with the focus although there is certainly room for improvement. Cheers for looking.

Sheri, thanks for the info...hope you get that bit sorted, as I saw and imaged with an LS60 at SGL5 and it delivered some good results
