A Chronological History of Smyth & Barlow Lenses

Recommended Posts

From a quick "skim" that looks a very interesting read Chris - thanks for posting it :)

Interesting to see the forefathers of the Nagler and other designs in there.

I must make time for a more thorough read of it.

Very good article! Well worth reading.

I can personally vouch for the Klee eyepiece... I had a 28mm version which I used on various f4.5 reflectors ( 12" through to 29") and it worked 100% Just did what it says on the box.

( I still have and use the Klee x2.2 and x2.8 Barlows)

That certainly gives an idea as to how complex quality EPs are, and explains their expensive nature. I shall read in more detail shortly.

Thats a good point - people must often wonder why Naglers, XW's and the like are the prices they are - at least this might go someway to explaining that. With the Naglers I believe 4 different types of glass are used in each eyepiece plus each individual eyepiece is tested down to F/4 before being offered for sale. That's not a cheap approach !.
