Hi to all, :)

Next bunch of photos shows the warm room roof completion.

I used 12mm OSB board.

Which was given a coat of cold bitumin adhesive, before applying the layers of 'super shed felt' (which is meant to last 15 years). :D

As you can see I have added a few finishing touches to the edges, to give it that 'Shed look' to help with security.

External part of warm room is now finished :)

Very Very nice. I always thought about having my warm room door separate, to avoid entering the obs. What do you feel are the benefits of an internal door?

Everyone has diffferent tastes and needs.

My choice was:

Main central door into obs is north facing, aiding mount polar alignment.:D

Scope and mount along with tripod will be going to Cornwall regularly when we visit the inlaws. (Dark skies:hello2:)

Most of my expensive things (computer set up/eyepieces/etc...)

will be kept in the warmroom,so less access the better (internal door will also be lockable, aswell as alarmed)

Main reason for my Internal door from obs to warm room.

I will able to see my laptop to set focus.

Some people fit a window between the two to do that.

Hi to All, :D

Four more photos.....

Photo 1 :A look into my warm room :)

You can see the rolls of loft insulation that I used to line the walls. £5 a roll (Bargain).

In the end, it only took two!! Photos to follow.

Photo 2 : Nearside ROR clad

Photo 3 : Added two vents at either end of warm room to aid air circulation.

Photo 4 : end stops added

Hi to All,

Obs roof is now FINISHED!!

I will post some photos showing it open later on in the week.

Same process as the warm room.

12mm OSB board, with Wickes super shed felt.

Finishing touches to give it that 'shed look'

As you can see from the photos, I had to staple up some plastic sheeting to the front of the obs.

REASON: A local cat had taken to sleeping in the warm room and spray marking my pier!!

The smell of cat pee in my obs is not nice!!

(Had to scrub the pier down with disinfectant.)

This seemed the only solution, till funds allowed me to purchase cladding to complete the front of the obs.

(It worked)

Next up: front and rear obs cladding(nearly watertight);)

WOW, I envy you for that obs...

Any idea how much you spent on materials for that (if you don't mind sharing that...)?

From the soil up, for the Obs and warm room including the pier and pier base, around £950.

You don't have to spend as much as me. I went OTT on premium products for this build..

I have seen a lot of people use just slabs as a base, instead of the concrete blocks I did.

OSB board or chipboard for the floor is a lot,lot cheaper than the 18mm pine T&G flooring I used.

I spent £57.50 on 2x rolls of premium felt with a 15 year guarantee for the roof.

Basic shed/kennel felt is considerably cheaper (£10 a roll),but does not last as long.

Smaller studwork, feather edge cladding, savings can be made everywhere for a budget build...

My wife asks "When am I putting a bed in there to move in??" :o

Hi to all, :D

Now that the outside is all finished and watertight(apart from the guttering),I can turn my attention to the inside

Photos 1&2 :As mentioned in a previous post. I haved lined my warmroom with loft insulation.

The framework was distanced 370mm apart, just right for the insulation.

Only used two rolls, total cost:£10(bargain)

I have still to decide what to line the roof with????.....

Might go with polystyrene insulation boards.

Photo 3 : view into obs from warm room

Photo 4: I have started to line the warmroom with 3mm hardboard

and first fix mains power going in...

You can just see my lighting arrangement.

I have a red lens bulk head light for night vision and a white

bulk head light for normal work (image processing etc)

The camp light is so I can see what I am doing at the moment.

It is pitch black in the warmroom with the ROR closed...

P.S Before anyone notices,I still have to cut out the bottom inside air vents:o

Hi to all, :)

For the warm room roof insulation,I decided to go with polystyrene insulation boards.

(50mm thick 2400mm x 600mm)

I used two to completely insulate the roof (as per first photo).

I then lined the roof with 3mm hardboard. The same as the sides.

Finally the last photo shows what arrived in the post this week...:)

No Obs should be without the obligatory 'STARGAZERS LOUNGE' mug!!

I also purchased the coaster & mouse mat for the warm room.
