Tantalus
I've seen a CG5 mount for sale, and would like to know do these compare to the EQ5 mount? Could I use the EQ5 dual-axis drive motors on the CG5 mount?
GazOC
Other than small differences dpending which versions are compared they are pretty much the same mount. The EQ5 motors can be used on the CG5.
nicnac
i have the CG5 and it really is a rock solid mount, it took my weight well (prob not the best way to test it!)there is a pic in my profile
John
I have a CG5 and I've owned an EQ5. There are very similar but the CG5, with it's 2" tubular steel legs, seems a little sturdier than the EQ5 to me. But there is not much in it.

John
The EQ5 has 2" steel legs, or at least mine does. It's quite possible that they do now - they used to have 1.75" steel tripods though which were quite a bit shorter than the CG5 ones as well as being slightly thinner. Sparrow
I'm delighted with my CG5 mount with goto. Has taken all the weight I put on it (8" Newt + 3 1/2" refractor + DSLR) without any problems. I find it very sturdy.
haitch
Love my CG5 with DK-3 Dual Axis motors. I hear the Celestron motors can be noisy but my DK-3s are whisper quiet (they are a direct clone of the Vixen ones apparently and also slew at 32x which is faster than Skywatcher & Celestron ones I think..I seem to remember reading that CG5s use better bearings.
