On the Sky and telescope website...

http://skytonight.com/

Is film dead as far as astrophotography is concerned?

I ticked yes...

Then clicked on the results....Are the Americans nostalgic or something. Can you imagine taking pictures of the night sky then waiting for 3 days for the pictures to come back only to find someone in a white coat has stuck a little oval sticker on your pics saying.

"Remove the lens cap"

Thats got me wondering. Anybody know if there's an adapter like a T ring for medium format cameras? Thinking Kiev 88, Pentax 6X7 or similar. I don't think the make of camera has any bearing on the pictures as there's nothing in front of the film when the picture is happening.

Just a thought brought on by this thread and happy memories with developing 120 films as a boy.

Thats not such a bad idea CC, although saying that im sure that medium format stuff will keep it's price for a whole while longer than 35mm stuff i would have thought. Not sure what the going rate is on ebay. I bet Arthur could knock something up in an afternoon if you knew the thread dimensions.

How about one of these CC?

Not a problem with the Kiev, as it never had much price to begin with. The big boys will not go near them as they need Pro. kit, and the hobby side is going all digital. Now we have 10MP DSLRs they can compete with MF film stuff. I'd thought maybe just a film back off a Hassy or even Kiev would do if it has the dark slide with it. Focussing will be a different matter in that case though.
