Spider - Help needed!

Right people, need some help here! I'm making a spider for my latest project (7" dob) and I've found a good design on the web. The problem is, what is the hexagonal shaped object in the picture below!?

The site in question didn't explain what it was and I'm hoping to get one tomorrow! No-one I've spoken to has a clue so any ATM's care to shed some light?

It looks rather like an airline adapter. Got one stuck on the business end of my compressor tank, then the pipe to the airline goes onto it. It would be Imperial threads.

Thanks for that Arthur, had a quick flick through the Screwfix book but nothing in there. I guess it's a traipse round Colchester in the pouring rain to locate one, deep joy!

It'll likely be machine mart rather than screwfix

Its a reducing nipple screwed into a short socket, looks like 1/2" x 1" BSP (British Standard Pipe). Get them at a local Plumb Center or similar. You will also be able to get different sizes if necessary.

Ahah, it says its made of plastic so forget what I said earlier, the bits I mentioned are either steel or malleable cast iron.

Don't know where you would get one of those. I'll let you know if I think of anything or find anything in the shed.
