First Light Optics will be the first UK dealer to receive the new Atik 383L+ cameras when they arrive next Wed-Thu :)

However, they are in very short supply so we have only managed to secure three.

The next delivery is due around the last week of March mid-late April.

For details of this and other Atik cameras please see our website.

Aah ... there has been a delay. The new Atik 383L+ cameras will now arrive next week. Apologies to those of you who have pre-ordered.

After this first delivery the next batch is scheduled for mid-late April.

We have now pre-sold all our Atik 383L+ CCD cameras. Unfortunately Atik are not likely to release a second batch until mid-April. This camera has generated a great deal of interest so will be in short supply for several months. If you are looking for one it is best to register your interest as soon as possible, there is no need to place a deposit.

The hugely popular Atik 314L+ and Atik 16ic are in stock for overnight delivery.

We have just been advised that delivery is now due around mid-end of next week. Sincere apologies for the inconvenience, this is due entirely to production delays at the Atik factory in Portugal.

The Atik 383L+ camera is proving very popular. FLO secured three from this first batch (all three are sold/pre-ordered). We have been promised another three from the second batch due early May. A third batch is also planned for early July when, hopefully, Atik will have caught up with demand and we can begin sourcing the cameras in larger quantities.

If you are in the market for a 383L+ from the next delivery please contact us soon as we expect them to be snapped up quite quickly.

With all this attention on the new 383L+ it is worth noting that our best-selling CCD imaging camera is still the Atik 314L+ with it's superb Sony ICX285AL ExView sensor and full set-point cooling. The 314L+ mono is available off-the-shelf for overnight delivery.

Steve

We are receiving a 'lot' of enquiries regarding the availability of the Atik 383L+ camera.

The situation has not changed, we are expecting another three cameras to arrive Early May. There is no need for a deposit, we simply make a note of those interested then contact them when the cameras arrives.

Alternatively, if you know now that this is the camera for you, please contact us about placing a firm order.

After May, another delivery is expected early July, we hope then to be sourcing them in larger quantities.

Hope that helps,

Steve

We now have firm orders for two of the three Atik 383L+ cameras expected early May.

One remaining..... :)

It looks like the expected early-May delivery date for Atik 383L+ will slip to mid-end May. Sorry.

Some good news: There is now an Ascom driver written by Chris Rowland available that enables all Atik cameras to be controlled by Ascom compliant programs.

There is also an update to the 383L driver to stop smearing or lines coming from some bright stars.

Both available from HERE

Steve

Hi Steve,

Is this smearing a drawback of the Atik 383L+ camera? I mean, does other 8300 ccds have the same issue, or it is an Atik design error?

Does the fix corrects the problem, or it reduces it? How important is that to someone who intends to do photometry for example?

Also, regarding the delivery date, is there any possibility for extended delays?

Thank you very much!

Regards,

Talos

Hi Steve,

Is this smearing a drawback of the Atik 383L+ camera?

Nope, not any more :p

It was a shutter-timing issue so was easily fixed via a firmware update. Firmware tweaks and updates are not unusual, particularly during the first few weeks after a product is launched.

Does the fix corrects the problem, or it reduces it?

The problem (which only occurred in certain circumstances) has been fixed, totally.

A quick thank-you to Nick Howes :D

Nick is currently working on a 383L+ review for Astronomy Now. Nick discovered the problem during his tests and worked with Atik on the solution. More from Nick HERE

Working in astro-retail, we are aware that Nick's behind-the-scenes product testing and feedback has resulted in improved products from a number of manufacturers.

How important is that to someone who intends to do photometry for example?

We don't recommend the 383L+ for photometry, the lower noise Sony 285 sensor fitted to the Atik 314L+ is better suited. (With all the excitement surrounding the 383L+ the more affordable 314L+ is being overlooked. At its new reduced price it offers exceptional performance).

Also, regarding the delivery date, is there any possibility for extended delays?

It is possible but unlikely. Atik are 'quietly confident' that they will be able to deliver the next batch of 383L+ mid-end May.

Hope that helps,

Steve

Thank you very much Steve, for your extensive , kind reply.

I intend to use the 383L+ for photometry as long as for astrophotography, but binned 2x2, giving 10.8 um pixels, I think it would be ideal..maybe the sony sensor is better but I 'll see..

Thanks again.

Talos

Apologies for being hard to reach Neil, after our move later this month we will have three phones whereas at the moment we have just one and I am frequently away from my desk preparing for the move.

Things will improve - promise :):icon_scratch:
