West Yorkshire/Leeds

Welcome MarcDearn to the SGL Lounge. There are a couple of us bods just starting to do the same down in the midlands and we are starting to see the potential of local meets. Although our first meet was only last night and cloud cover stopped any observing, we have secured a site where regular observing can be done. With permission of course. If you or anyone in your area know of any where observing can be done in a secure area then this would be a good start in organising a local meet. The benefits of this is that local astronomers to yourself can go to observe and feel secure in the presence of like minded people. Follow the thread for the black country observers group if you like and if we can help in any way, feel free to ask.

I am not a Leeds AS member but I do know they have outside meets ( Eeee by gum Eccup !!!) . There website has this page Leeds Astronomical Society . They also used to head out towards Fewston and Swinsty reservoirs a few years ago .

West Yorkshire astro groups used to have a few meetings at the old Bradford Robotic Telescope site on Cockhill Moor with Leeds AS , Bradford AS, Hebden Bridge AS and Huddersfield bringing scopes out . There have been a few 'gatherings' in the car parks at Penistone Hill above Haworth . Hardest part is dates and weather. At the Cockhill site (BRT) we could set up a series of short talks indoors when the cloud came in,
