Annoying Stacking issues, help appreciated

Hey guys

I have a problem, I have taken a bunch of pictures with my Nikon D300 of the moon, mars, m45 and m31. I have been trying my hardest to stack them in registax v5 and DSS. but every time I try it just blurs the image. There is something going wrong with the alignment process. I have tried fiddling with the settings but nothing works. Either I end up with ghosts of stars, multiple moons or this weird pattern that looks like hexagonal blocks or it only stacks 1 frame out of all the ones I have taken.

Has anyone experienced this or does anyone else know how to fix it. Its getting annoying fast.

In DSS have you set the auto align for the frames? and is DSS detecting enough stars? there is a slider that determines the number of detectable stars. Are you using RAW files.
