The ED100 is actually better than the ED80 for DSO's as it has more light grasp. It has a longer focal length however which means it has a smaller field of view (higher magnification) which for the larger DSO's can be a pain. A focal reducer will help to get a larger FOV should you need it for your targets. The extra 20mm of aperture makes a big difference
