USB shutter control on Canon DSLR???

Can anyone confirm exactly which models of the Canon DSLR have shutter control via the "standard" USB connection ie Don't require the additional serial shutter release.

If found some info on the DigicIII/4 but I can't see exactly which cameras have which????

I've played briefly with USB contorl of the 450d. When I first got it, but I've not used it for Astro.

It works on a 300D which is DIGIC I I think.

Sorry mate, the extended shutter control > 30 seconds doesn't work on the 300D or 350D without the additional serial shutter release ( or a TC80 remote)

What I'm looking for is experience with the Canon USB connection ONLY in controlling the shutter beyond the 30 second exposure....

Used both 40 d and 1000d with usb control

both with canon software and Maxim

400D requires a separate cable for longer than 30 Seconds.

Believe it was the last camera in the Canon range not to have full USB control, it had USB control of exposure up to 30 Sec but not over it.

I use Canon 50d USB to laptop and control all functions from canon utilities. (shutter speed, ISO, white balanace etc etc)

Jerry Lodriguss has solved the mystery!!!

To quote:

are DIGIC III processors, and they can control all functions via a

single USB2 cable.

If you go to my page here:

Nikon and Canon DSLR Camera Specifications Compared

and look under the column for connections, if the entry is USB2*

(with the asterick), then the camera can be controlled by a single

USB2 cable, including long bulb exposures.

Any Canon DSLR camera released after the 1D Mark III in February of

2007 will have single USB2 cable control.

Ahh,

yes, when I'm in the EOS Utility and I choose bulb the take a picture option gets greyed out. Lucky I've got that remote shutter release!

Works fine with EOS 1000 D. Including BULB. Used it the other day - checked this evening, definite. Not that I got anything decent - I think I must have set the HEQ5 handset to 'S' instead of 'N' though - happened a couple of times in the dark, and it never clicks what's wrong till after the clouds roll over.
