Super Lube Anybody?

Recommended Posts

I've been Reading about people re lubing their mount gears with Super Lube. My HEQ5 is a little noisy when starting to slew at speed and stopping and wondered if anyone has used Super Lube, where they got it from, did it make a difference or is there another fix to get rid of this noise? My EQ5 wasn't this noisy and I have tried to adjust the gears but the noise is still there. When tracking it is almost silent.

So, what do I do?

hi

if you cant find superlube, look for PTFE based grease, it is the same stuff, i found some in a bicycleshop, costs almost nothing.

adjusting your wormgears would probably also make a difference.

i think astro_babe here on the forum have written a good piece on that, theck the primers part of the forum.

Hi red dwalf,

There's a guide to the CG-5 over at AstronomyBoy.

One word of warning - it is very easy to strip the threads out of the holes in the castings that the worm assemblies screw into when you're adjusting the mesh of the worm gears. I know from experience:o!
