Check out what Mancunian Lee managed to do with his 'scope. Not at all funny, though he saw the funny side. He has a much better sense of humour than I have.

Captain Chaos

Got a link for that?

So will I be happy with a 8" I will probably using it more on DSO than planets..

To be honest, although I really do wan't the 10", I can afford it too, but having worked out the sizes (Jesus it's huge!) I just don't think it will be practical. I mean I have to haul it up and down a flight of outside stairs that are pretty narrow..I would be worried about damaging it.

Is the 8" just as good? I mean I know it's not as powerfull..but you know..

Shame I wanted to see the arms on M51..

Can't have everything I suppose..

Kain

I suspect you won't notice the difference between the 8 and the 10 very often, and if you don't look through many 10s, you'll never notice the difference. The longer f number of the 8 would be a factor for me, as well as the probability that I could carry the base without a wheelbarrow.

It seems to me, though, that you will always have that little, niggling doubt if you don't get the 10. You can't really go wrong either way, so get the 10".

In that case, the 8" is better..

Kain

For eyepieces.... :)

I've owned both the scopes you are looking at and the difference in views is not that big. I doubt you'll notice it at all on planets/the moon and most DSOS. The difference is in globs and few faint nebula/galaxies.
