PaulG
My better half started work early this morning and announced at 6.30 that the Moon looked really clear and bright.I'm not known for my early starts but on hearing this I was outside like a ferret up a drain pipe.So here it is, shot with a Skywatcher 150mm F8 achro Refractor.A single prime focus shot with a Nikon D70. ashenlight
That is a fantastic Moon shot, Paul. Really well done. I'm astounded by the detail, the craters look so sharp and the surface contrast just adds to the 'wow factor' - great work!!

PaulG
very nicewhat ISO did you set your D70 ?any processing?it must had been early in the morningThanksI always use ISO 200 with the Nikon to minimize noise in the shadows.I'm sure the newer Nikon D90 would perform better, I hope to upgrade one day.I have applied a little sharpening and altered the contrast by a small amount.Paul

Many Thanksresonator77Hi The Moon image was taken with my F8 150mm Skywatcher Refractor and my Nikon D70 6mp DSLR.The shutter speed was set at 1/125 of a second and the ISO was set at 200.I normally take around 20/30 photographs and then choose the sharpest image that has the best overall focus.I then alter the contrast, brightness and sharpness with paint shop pro.It really is worth spending a lot of time trying to get the best focus set up to achieve a sharp image. In the future I might tether the Nikon to a laptop so that I can see immediately after the shot has been taken if my focus is good or bad.CheersPaul

PaulG
Cant believe you have taken these image with DSLR:eek:I have canon 1000D and cant get the similar quality:)I would think the Canon is an ideal choice of camera for this kind of work.I try to get the best focus point looking through the D70 view finder, I then take a few shots.I then take a few shots either side of what I think is the best focus point. It is a bit of a hit and miss method but the D70 focus screen is tiny, it makes it really hard to see the best focus point.Paul
