Does registax run slower when Vista extended mode is on?

So.. I have a set of 1.4G avi files from IC Capture in Y800 mode. If I try and process these on my Windows XP machine, I get all sorts of problems such as it accessing incorrect instructions, falling over at 3476 (always) frames or just doing weird things. Processing speed is 70+fps. This is with Extended mode set to Default and "Use extended mode" set to any of the 4 choices.

As soon as I set Extended mode to Vista, the thing works, but uses next to no CPU and runs at 15fps.

Anyone any idea what's going on here? I'm running Registax 5.0.2.8. I've tried Registax 4, but that blows up too...
