Visual UHC filter with SLR?

Recommended Posts

hi

i have been thinking something those lines to, using a UHC and Olll maybe, and stack those with images without filters, and if this would possibly give any added details to the image?

i know the filters are made for visual, but does that mean they are useless for photos?

Visual filters tend to bleed IR and UV through at either end. The human eye isnt sensitive to this, so for visual use this isnt a problem, but CCDs and modified DSLRs are sensitive to these wavelengths, and so can causes some issues. This is why usually the imaging versions of filters tend to be slightly more expensive. Also, as the IR and UV are so far away from the visible wavelengths, they can bloat around brighter stars as they are not at focus compared to the visible wavelengths
