guarantees

i bought some equipment second hand, as you do, and the item is almost new and still under guarantee / warranty, my question is as i`ve bought it second hand will the guarantee still be valid ? i have the receipt / invoice for the item.

any help thanks

Depends. In astronomy i've come across a few that state "non-transferable/original owner only" and the like, a few others that apply for 12/24 months regardless of owner. I've also had companies stick to the letter of the guarantee, and others just sort it regardless.

Unless the person you got it from is being difficult, the usual solution to a non-transferable guarantee is to return it to them and get them to have it fixed under guarantee - if they sold you something that then failed then it's not a lot to ask.
