Jupiters Moons (or lack of them ?)

As reported on the One Minute Astronomer site, it seems that all of Jupiters moons will be hidden from view on September 2nd / 3rd.

Also, looks like a "once in a while" experience - it's not set to occur again until 2019 ! I think it would be interesting to see them drop away and re-emerge.

That should be interesting but I think the sky might be lightening too much to see the moons reemerging (based on the 4:43 to 6:29 time). I'm not sure if thats BST or not, it may be an hour earlier.

Sounds like a need for a nice clear night Steve. Having managed to see Jupiter with all four moons last Sunday (a week ago(, it could be nice to see it with none.

I think that because we are on BST these events won't start for us until 5.43 AM. when its gettingpretty light. US observers should be ok though

It'll be prime time for me. The moons will be transiting or occulted from about 11:50pm till about 1:30am... that's going to look really weird, lol. It's been beautifully clear for a few days and nights already, and the forecast says much of the same for tomorrow.

We can only see four moons, the rest are to small. You must have seen a background star.

One would have been a background star, although Jupiter has a lot moons, generally only 4 are visible with reasonably sized amateur scopes.
