truss dob - progress at last

At last, I have made some progress with a remake of an 8.5" newtonian. Work had me maxed out for too long and my children (3 year old and 5 month old) gobble what little spare time I had at home.

Anyway, some evenings of effort and early morning starts has seen a lot of progress. Unfortunately I haven't downloaded the pics from my phone yet (they will follow once I find the blumming cable). All the wood parts of the ota have been made and the third coat of paint is drying, focusser is coming from mc2 of frome, spider and secondary are finished, camping mat foam is cut to size (shield from dew and stray light), primary 12V CPU fan wired up and trusses (crimped tent poles) are cut to length.

Hoping to have it ready for Salisbury star party (children and work not withstanding).

Having learnt a lot and thoroughly enjoyed the project, I do wonder if it is truly worth it - especially when I see the price of second hand dobs!

Anyway, pics to follow.

Looking forwardto seeing the pics myself. I am in the process of re-designing my 8" f5 OTA into a truss dob. Ive just purchased Kriege and Berry's book 'The Dobsonian Telescope@, and I've found, much to the misses disgust, that I can't put it down. lol

Did you use a standard 3 point mirror cell in your design or a 9 point flotation cell???
