Nice easy targets for the next few days?

Recommended Posts

Can anyone give me some nice easy targets for the next few days?

I have a Skywatcher 130.

The last few days I have just been viewing Saturn which is great.

Tomorrow night we are having friends round so would be nice to show them a few sights

The ring nebula (M57) shows quite well in the Skywatcher 130 and is quite easy to find, but you need to wait up until close to midnight and use the 10mm eyepiece. Nearby albeiro is one of the best double stars in the sky and again is very pretty in the 130.

Try splitting Mizar, that's a pretty sight, as is Arcturas. Also check for the ISS flyover times.

I'm surprised no-one has suggested M13 ... or M92.

Epsilon Lyrae (the "Double Double") is well worth a look.

M27, the Dumbell nebula, is a great target which is getting to a decent altitude about this time of night too.

Cheers

Definitely I agree with Brianb, M13 in Hercules' keystone is one of the best clusters. There are also two clusters in Perseus that are nice (there's a trick to using two stars in Cassiopeia's W to find them - they point practically right at the clusters) -perhaps it's a little early for them yet? Arcturus is one of my favorite stars as well, one of the few sights that contain color.

Thanks for the pointers,

The ISS pass is already marked in my head ready for tonight.

M13 is a must. if you have never seen a globular cluster before then you will be amazed.
