Aww poop.....

just looked out of my window to discover my neighbour has just installed 2 'million-candle' patio lights in his garden.  Right adjacent to where I just about to put my mini obsy 😭😖

You need a higher fence... Or better point a mirror back at him!

Preferably a parabolic one aimed right through his bedroom window...

Oh! That is indeed inconvenient :( But just wait until they get their electricity bill! Will probably take them down themselves (?

Just wait until he puts his:Xmas lights up next to his insecurity light 💡. Perhaps he would be amenable to switching it off on the nights you are imaging.

You can actually complain to the local council about this, if the light is shining into your house and "distrurbing your wellbeing" (or however they word it) then they can be made to either install motions sensors or simply turn it off. People are fined for such immoral monstrocities. They cannot claim security as it is a domestic premises and they have an enclosed garden. A polite neighbour would put a motion sensor on it if you speak to them - the ignorant ones won't.

Try this guide.

I'm sorry to hear that. In an area of otherwise such natural lack of LP, that's a real shame.

Some people are so entitled and inconsiderate 🤬.

Fortunately in our three villages we value our dark skies and are putting LP prevention in our neighborhood plan.

That's great for your astronomy. And it's great that people can still get together and agree to do something for the benefit of all without (I am assuming!) the need for a trip to the High Courts... ;)

Quite clearly, that is blatant light intrusion.

If you know who lives there and are considered as reasonable, it could perhaps be resolved with a friendly chat to convey your concern. Show them this picture, they may not be aware and may respond by toning it down / placing a hood over. If not, take it it up with your local council, you will need this image as evidence. Finally I would assume that they are owner occupiers, however if a rental, it is worth while inquiring who the letting agency is. I have had two issues with inappropriate external security lights, both on rental properties opposite to us and in each case, being a different letting agency, have resolved the issue, amicably with both the tenants and through the agency. With so many neighbourhood light issues, unfortunately doing nothing is probably the worst favoured option and pursuing a light intrusion issue can inform and create awareness of this.

A couple of photos of the local pub, showing how outside lighting should be done.

The lights look brighter in the photos than they do to the eye.
