Star Adventurer GTi Wi-Fi

Recommended Posts

Good evening everyone, just a quick question. l have the Skywatcher star adventurer GTi. a good friend set it all today with Nina and CDC. We can not get the mount to respond unless my laptop is connected to the internet. That's ok if lm at home but lf l wanted to go to say a dark sky site and have no internet access it will not work. lt is set to serial. so l was wondering as its set to serial and connected via a USB the inbuilt WIFI will not work. The manual is not very clear. Many thanks.

I guess if that's the only problem, you can always share data with your laptop from your cell phone, using the "Telephone and Modem Sharing" option, so your computer will have access to the Internet using your phone line data.

You do not need an internet connection to control a mount unless you're doing it remotely (IE your equipment is hosted off site somewhere else).

As per the second comment, is the mount configured to connect to your home WiFi router (so you think it needs to be connected to the internet, if so, no you still aren't using an internet connection, the mount is connected to your router and your controlling device is also connected to the router hence all devices are on the same network and can see each other). Such a method of connecting helps with WiFi range if you need to cover some distance.

For simplicity and if you don't need to connect over a large distance its easier to connect your controlling device directly to the mount over the mounts own WiFi which I assume it has built in if it's anything like an azgti.

Many thanks for all your replies. Yes all ascom drivers installed and it was coming up Ascom error. I spent an hour down the observatory this afternoon and was able to connect to everything except in NINA it would not connect to the mount. Switched on and off several times and all seems good. I will find out later when l start imaging. I will do the mount software update tomorrow and hopefully that will fix any bugs.
