"It's life Jim. but not as we know it."

Scotty never actually uttered these words (apparently) but maybe now would be a good time to use it in relation to this paper:

Chis Impey of Arizona State Uni., who I am sure many of us have read books by, is one of the authors, so not a self publishing flying saucer evangelist but a respected Astronomer with an impressive track record.

I cannot imagine why it has not had wider attention.

Probably because it's spouting STS-75 nonsense again i.e. where de-focussed pin-points of light are claimed to be mile-wide sentient plasma doughnuts.

Obviously none of these authors have ever owned a telescope.

I see the "Journal of Modern Physics" (As opposed to the "International Journal of Modern Physics") is on the list of predatory journals designed to make money from people who are unable to get their work published in reputable peer review journals

That may well explain why it has not had wider attention then! I must admit I didn't like the language in the headline summary where it intimated predation behaviour, hunting etc.  One thing to report a physical phenomena displays behavioural ecology like patterns (predation, hunting) opposed to displaying the behaviour itself. A little presumptive I though. Opposite electrical charges attracting and interactions  of magnetic fields hardly constitutes a life process.

They probably published in this journal because what they are proposing seems to be completely and utterly mad and no main stream one would touch it with a barge pole, and I doubt very much they would get it through the normal peer review process. Maybe that is why it ended up where it did.

The involvement and motivation of Prof. Chis Impey, who appears to have impeccable academic credentials is however intriguing. When you consider his publication list, whether research papers or books, he is clearly no Astronomical lightweight, but a very credible and respected academic.

I  think you are spot on there.

I could write it now for them now - "subatomic particles are the precursor for life". That seems to be pretty much their thrust. In the meantime I'll wait out for the next edition of The Three Body Problem. :)

A friend told me that a reboot called Hand Solo won some awards - albeit in a genre of films that likes to play with the movie titles. Ahem...
