Early Morning Aurora 17th September 2024

Recommended Posts

A G3 storm was overdue, then near full moon and areas of cloud, and lack of sleep almost put me off trying to find some Aurora. When I headed out the clear sky was disappearing into the west. About 3am an area of cloud covered most of the sky, I was about to return home, when I noticed there was a small gap in the north east slowly heading towards me, so I waited until 4am.

Luckily most of the cloud cleared away about 04.15 for about twenty minutes. During this time it seems like the Aurora picked up and I was able to see pillars with red hues by eye. Around 04.40 the clouds were returning, and it started to get light.

Well captured!  It sounds like it was a very fleeting event (I just missed it, poking my camera out at 4.50am just as the burst had subsided).

I particularly like the misty foreground - very atmospheric and very East Anglian!

Yes I've often found that you need luck with all these events. Alot of times it doesn't work out, and you wonder why you're up at 3am.

Mist is always atmospheric, It's often elusive and great to photograph.
