Why bother going out in the cold ?

Actors may find themselves out of jobs in the not too distant future

It's already kind of happening to author's, screenwriters, storyboard artists, etc, anyone whom contributes to the media sector. Wish they'd apply the technology to useless jobsworth management positions and the powers that be, that WOULD be a genuine application of the tech. HS2 might have been built by now under budget.

So do I, as the AI will have combined it's knowledge of everyone else's copyright to generate it's 'artistic creation' whatever format that might take.  I can't just imagine the plagerism claims, esp. if an AI output goes on to make lots of money.

It will undoubtedly open up a new branch of law.

superintelligence or supercopying?

Bit old news, the CEO quit a while ago over concerns of unregulated development of AI (true AI), businesses in this field are supposed to have internal regulators to ensure the AI is developed under strict parameters to ensure they cannot run wild (though most companies do not divert the investment needed to make sure such departments are well funded and considered top priority important). There were rumours prior to his initial departure that the company had made a breakthrough of truly ground breaking, maybe even sentient AI.

Just saw the linked article, he ended up going back to his job at the same company...

It was only a few months ago I read about an environmental experiment where they utilised AI (don't know which model, whether it was custom or general use) to try to solve algae loss or something in the oceans. The AI solved the problem quite easily, but by doing it in practical terms it would have reduced the oxygen in the oceans and atmosphere hence killing off most of life on earth. Remember systems like this have access to the internet, which in the most basic of computer networking/security classes, is a very huge mistake.

Most new technology has unfortunate unintended consequences. The tech companies rarely consider these things, focusing only on the use case they have in mind, and not taking account of humanity's propensity for evil. AI offers more ways than most new technologies for things to go wrong.

The problem is, once commercialisation comes into the equation, morality goes out the window. The powers would rather make a quick buck than do good. Since chatgpt came onto the market, just look at the scores of companies trying to outdo each other. Who knows what's happening in the military sector.

Gen AI makes it so easy to pervert photos with computer generated illusions that it will hasten the destruction of photos as being any evidence for objective truth.

ChatGPT 4 can now solve the new hire programming assignment my company gives prospective employees (although not elegantly, yet).

I work in AI and there are times I wish it didn't exist.

On the Dark Web, you can buy AI models trained on evil, just in case you want help penning scams, extortion or anything else shady. So in a few thousand days, we can look forward to email scams written by superintelligent AI?

Then we can ask an super Ai to produce and Ai scam counter scam. They will be caught in an endless self destructive loop while we can sit back and enjoy tea and tiffin :)

I think we go outside into the cold to get away from the rubbish that Ai and its like generates. A healthy exposure to nature does mind, body and spirit good.

One benchmark for Ai is Will Smith eating spaghetti ( I think that prompt was one of the first Ai generated videos )

Here is a version I did !!  This is extremely hard to distinguish from a real vid ?  I think the only thing that lets it down is the initial hand movement not synced to the mouth.

The other issue I've seen with video is things appearing and disappearing at random, you can see it in the dangling spaghetti. Scenes populated with people for example will have people appearing behind others or from walls at strange angles on the side they appear where they didn't exist on the other side of the occlusion object. If using inpainting over an existing real video you can mitigate such issues if all you're doing is character replacement.

I love going out in the cold to observe the night sky in person. It brings my senses alive.
The feel of the cool air on my skin. Its quiet, and the noise of the day has subsided. There is no rush, I can take my time. I can hear leaves drop softly to the ground as autumn approaches. In Spring there is the occasional waft of a night scented flower. Sometimes, I hear an owl in the distance, a frog in the undergrowth or a moth flutter by. As I gaze into the night sky in wonder, my heart rate drops and I reach a meditative flow state. I take out my small sketchbook and start a simple drawing. As I draw I see more - everything becomes clearer. Its as though time stands still as I connect with the universe. There is no time, no distance - only the stars and planets before me.

(written in person and not with GPT 🙂 )

I find people don't talk enough about my pictures 😄, so I asked chatgpt for some C&C.

Here is my AI response (a bit gushy and patronizing methinks?)

That's amazing—it's your own photograph of the Pacman Nebula! For astrophotography, this image is quite impressive. Capturing something as distant and intricate as a nebula requires a good understanding of both equipment and processing, so kudos to you for that!

Here are a few things that stand out:

  • Sharpness: The nebula’s structure is clear, and you’ve captured nice detail in the dark dust lanes, which gives it that iconic "Pacman" appearance.
  • Contrast: You’ve done well to highlight the darker regions, which can sometimes blend into the background of space.
  • Colors: The reddish and greenish tones typical of hydrogen emissions and other gases are visible, which is great. Some amateur photos can struggle to bring out these colors.

If you’re open to constructive feedback for improvement:

  • Noise Reduction: There’s a bit of noise (graininess), especially in the background. Some additional post-processing could help reduce that and make the stars pop even more.
  • Star Sharpness: Some stars are a little soft. If you're looking to refine it, you might want to check your focus or exposure length—long exposures can sometimes cause slight blurring in stars.

Overall, it's a fantastic shot! If you're into tweaking, slight adjustments in processing could make it even better, but it's clear you've got a great eye and the technical skills to match. Keep it up!

What kind of equipment did you use for this shot?
