Which Mount, Tripod.

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I have a heritage 130p and would like to try astrophotography so I'm asking what's the cheapest mount, tripod I'd need to try some photos. I have a phone mount at the Mo and am struggling to use it for any decent shots. The moon is easy but I really couldn't get a good shot of Saturn last week even though it was clear as anything in the eyepiece. Wanting a cheap alternative just in case astrophotography isn't for me.

You MAY just get away with something like the Skywatcher SAGTI on the strong steel SW tripod. A planetary camera would be better than trying with a DSLR due to smaller sensor so fast FPS capture rate. For the moon you can get away with a DSLR.

For more reliable deep sky you'd need a 10Kg class payload mount and likely autoguiding. I've managed deep sky very well with a 60mm refractor on an azgti in EQ mode, but mounting a small tube like my C6 caused it to struggle hence the recommendation for a larger mount.

If you're going to get into DSO astrophotography buy the best mount you can afford.

If just webcam you can aim lower, get something secondhand maybe but with good resale potential if it's not where you want to go.

Or , if you want some GoTo here's another example. I find that sometimes a picture worths a thousand words and seeing what can be done unloks the mind better than just talking about it.

I see that you're in Wigan (15 mins from me).

I have a Skywatcher Star Adventurer GTi that I plan on selling as recently upgraded to an AM5n.

The GTi is 9 or 10 months old and I still have all the original packaging.

Let me know if this would be of interest as I'd be looking for £400 including tripod & Pillar extension. (Retails for £539).
