Saturn Last Night

Out to image the planets last night however both the seeing and transparency were poor. Due to this i abandoned Jupiter and Mars but captured a few SER's of Saturn saying as i was all set up anyway. The planet was still relatively low and was still ascending. SW 180 Maksutov, AZ-EQ6 Pro, ASI585MC and ADC.

Very nice Ian. It seems you got Titan at the left hand side too. I feel you can push the sharpening a bit more. By the way, how do you like the new camera? What sort of FPS are you getting with it?

Yes I probably could have pushed it a bit more but I lose a bit of enthusiasm when the AS4 quality graph and stacked image is pretty poor or mediocre. I do like the 585 and have owned one previously. They are great for EAA and plate solving due to its larger sensor and FOV. I was only around 100fps on Saturn due to having to increase my exposure time to about 20ms and 420 gain just to have my histogram at about 75%. On Jupiter I am usually capturing at about 180fps. I've also noticed that when using my Mak I have to increase the exposure time for Saturn more than what I did with my 10" dobsonian (12ms) which increased the frame rate. I also like the fact that the 585 is just over 8MP.

Nice effort. You got some banding and Titan, too. I use a 180mm Mak with the ASI 224mc primarily for imaging. When the seeing is poor I don't even try, lol, But I'm glad you did!
