Possible daylight  meteor sighting from Cheshunt in Hertfordshire at 8.14 p.m.

Heading North West at approx 45° high.  My wife and I were eating alfesco in the garden and looking at aircraft approaching Stanstead airport . This objec brightened, moved & faded.

  • Grump Martian changed the title to Possible daylight Meteor sighting at 8.14 p.m. Wednesday evening.

There was a website, I think it was UK meteor network, on which you could look back at allsky camera footage from hundreds of cameras around the country to check up on meteor sightings. I did just try googling for the site but it seems to have been struck by the blight of the modern internet and turned into gambling adverts.

you could try looking for similar websites to try and confirm the sighting, that would have to be a pretty impressive meteor to be visible in daylight!

The UK meteor network website was unavailable for a long time, but did come back recently: https://ukmeteornetwork.org/

Unfortunately the cameras don't operate during the day time. In the case of a daylight event the best thing to do is report it (see link above), and hope someone else caught it. Sometime they are caught on dashcam or CCTV, but it's quite rare for daytime fireballs.
