Altair 533c protec with C8

Recommended Posts

Hello,

i was considering the Altair 533c protec, mainly to image DSO with Altair 70EDT.

but I also have a C8 so I was wondering if anyone had experience of using the 533c on a C8?   I was thinking for planetary nebula and small galaxies etc

thanks

The 3.76um pixels means it will be very oversampled on the C8 @ 2000mm FL.

But some disregard pixel scales and get good results.

Thanks for the reply, but not really sure what that means.

what will be the real world effects?

anyone use a 533c and a C8?

You will be imaging at <0.4 arc secs/px which is more than you can really resolve. However, you can bin2 or bin 3 which will give you a more realistic pixel scale and reasonable signal to noise ratio.

Real world - it will work but maybe not ideal. However, it is probably ideal for your other scope.

I use my IMX571 with everything from 180mm FL to 1600mm FL. Technically under sampled at one end and oversampled at the other. However, most CMOS will be under sampled at long FL.

Personally I wouldn't lose any sleep over it, I haven't paid much attention to it myself and still produce good images.

What I would say, at long focal length your signal is spread over more pixel area, so if you use a small pixel camera the pixel response will be perceived to be lower than when using a larger pixel camera if all other things are equal. This is where binning comes into play.
