Putting Drives on a Vixen GP

All,

I'm thinking of motorizing my Vixen GP mount. with the aim of doing astrophotography. Having surfed around the net think it's either a choice between the DK-3 system (on astronomica.co.uk) skywatch eq-5 motors.

Can any experts suggest any other systems that I have missed?

Whats your budget? If you can find a Sky Sensor 2000 for sale i`d go for that, like i say it depends on budget and if you want GOTO and Autoguiding capability or just basic tracking.... HTH

Thanks for the advice. I was just thinking about tracking as I'm new to astronomy and concerned that if I went for GOTO I wouldn't learn the sky (I think it must be like being driven around in a car compared to navigating yourself) plus it's cheaper!

Hi Alan

I don't use goto as I have to be able to turn the drives on and off on a regular basis.

I fitted some EQ5 motors to my GPD2 and they work fine.

It is a very cheap solution as long as goto isn't needed.

I did fit a iOptron Goto kit on my GP2, it worked just fine.

I have since sold the mount,due to going back to alt/az.

Could be worth a look.
