Cleaning an SCT Corrector Plate?

Recommended Posts

I used my Celestron C6 SCT at an outreach event and last night discovered that some little darling has left a greasy paw print on the corrector plate.

Now, if this was my camera lens, I would have at it with some cleaning fluid and lens tissues BUT, i don't want to get banned from SGL for telescope maltreatment so, what advice for removing paw prints from correctors please.

Thanks,

Matt.

Cup of warm distilled water with a couple of drops of washing up liquid stirred in.  Good quality cotton wool balls.  Point the telescope slightly nose down, dip a cwb into the water and then drag it over the corrector surface, repeat until the marks have gone, new cwb each pass.  Finally swab off with new distilled water.     🙂
