Fixing Tent poles

Has anyone had the fun of fixing broken tent poles? One of Steve's broke when we took the tent down after last Kelling. Is it a case of switching out the broken one for a new one and rethreading the bungee/elastic string stuff through it?

Sorry about the lack of specifics as I don't have the broken poles to hand...

In a word James , yes

If you get a bit of stiff wire you can thread the elastic easily enough , tbh most camping shops will do it for you if you ask

I'm pretty sure that is the case James, and most tents with fibreglass poles, usually come with a spare or two.

If not, they are readily available at most camping shops.

BTW, rumour has it, that remembering to bring the poles with you has some significance

I got round the not taking poles problem by taking two tents to Kielder...

We'll have to get Steve's tent out next week - I'm fairly sure there was a spare.

I have broken a couple of poles on different tents.

When this has happened (even after having it for 2 years) i contacted the two manufacturers for a replacement.

Both times they replaced the broken pole free of charge.

Its worth a try.....

Hello James, very new to this camping thing and borrowed a tent and broke on e the tent poles - I know I am being a big girls blouse but do you think I could take the broken pole to Blacks and ask them to fix it for me?

It can't hurt to try although you'll probably need to buy another pole - hopefully they'll thread the other poles with it (assuming it's one of those that are threaded with several other poles.

Personally i would go to a independant camping shop , imo they will be well versed in pole threading.

Depends what tent you have, millets do some standard poles you can pick up cheaply. Worth having a look if you have a local store by you. (or Blacks)
