Show us your...most loved scope!

Recommended Posts

Just chiming in to say how much I love this thread. It's so great to see such a variety – a few Takahashis sure but dozens of others, too. Interesting to hear so many people say that they'll never forget their first... and also that some of these scopes don't provide the "best" views but are still beloved. The heart wants what it wants.

I love my Obsession 15" Classic, but the trusty Skywatcher 250px will always be special as my 1st scope which showed me so much, and I learned a tonne with ;)

I wouldn't want my lil' Lunt LS50DS to feel left out ... I love you too!

Some pics of my new to me Obsession 15in classic. My observatory  was used for imaging for 13 years' but now I am back to my first love just visual. So relaxing. I never though I would own a Obsession again; had one 15 years ago but sold it to finace Imaging.   Now 15 years later one came up for sale close to me in Indiana US.   So its a dream come true.  Will post some more pics later. Had to raise the floor. Thanks all

This is one of my favorite scopes.   Explore Scientific 127ED with a University Optics 80mm "Kit Scope" on an Astro Physics AP900GTO mount.  Shown on a Todmorden pier at my SRO dark site.

My RC6 is a firm favorite, especially now it is properly mounted on a Skytee 2. It is the perfect focal length for capturing the full lunar disc with my crop-sensor D3200 and is easier to handle than the 200P.

The problem is I love all of my scopes but this one is another of my favorites.

Sharpstar 15028 Hyper Newt on my AP900GTO mount.   At F 2.8 this thing is a "photon sponge"  (^8

After buying and selling several scopes ranging from dobs, fracs  and SCT’s I have now settled on this pair of scopes. Combined they provide me with everything I need to enjoy the night sky. My Starfield 102 and my 12” dobsonian.

A familiar combination. It doesn't get any better than that 👍

Wow - even faster than my Epsilon. Is it possible to buy a faster small-medium sized newt on today’s market?

The Vixen SD115S has been my dream scope for many years and here it is.

Now that's a proper scope. I'm going to use my insidious mind control device to get you to send it my way

Excellent - how do you rate it?
I didn’t know Vixen did one - is that similar to the Tak/More Blue micros, bat the ratio difference?

MoreBlue do a Tak micro and a Vixen micro, the differences are the Tak has an 8mm pinion shaft and the Vixen is 6mm and also the plates are a different design. The fixing plate with the MoreBlue is thicker metal than the Vixen and it's gear is 1:12 as opposed to the 1:7 of the Vixen. I had a Vixen micro in the past and found it a little "gritty". The MoreBlue works very well and cost under £100 delivered from Japan.
