Hello all, I'm pretty much a beginner and just bought my first telescope a few days ago, so would like some help with the red dot finder and polar alignment of the eq2 mount, aswell as the Barlow lens, anyone from the Lancashire region near Blackburn/Preston who'd be willing to help?

And here is how to align an EQ2…

https://youtu.be/1aailjnVZt8

A Barlow goes into the scope eyepiece holder and then the eyepiece fits into the Barlow. The Barlow multiplies the focal length of your telescope, so a x2 Barlow would increase the focal length of an 800mm telescope to 1600mm. This would mean a 10mm eyepiece which would normally give x80 (800/10) will now give x160 (1600/10)

Hope that helps.

Hi there,  if you're local to Preston you could take your scope to the next public outreach event at Moor Park on Thursday evening,  16th Feb.

Details on PADAS website,  http://www.padas.org.uk/padas-home/padas-diary/

I'm sure that there'll be someone there keen to help you get to grips with your new scope.

CS, Andy

Yes me - I’m from Fulwood

Would love to meet up sometime, definitely learn better in person! Just me and my friend who's started getting into astronomy. We've got the skywatcher 130, what about yourself and how long have you been into astronomy

About 10 years now and just started to branch out into AP and slowly building a bespoke rig. I would recommend speaking to Rob Ince who holds events around the county he’s h is super helpful, approachable and has helped me no end !

Often wondered about coming myself tbh, but assuming it’s mostly visual rather than imaging or am I wrong ?

Yes,  for public outreach it's almost all visual though we have started to get some imaging gear together for society use.  Still missing a camera...  There are a few members who are keen imagers using their own kit, myself included😗
