BlueWalker 3 satellite (8/2/23)

Recommended Posts

BlueWalker3 satellite from this afternoon. It is bright and can be seen naked eye from my back garden; I would say mag1-2 (it resembled a very dim ISS transit).  I am speechless to have captured it with some details. 8" Dob, manual tracking, asi462mc, 2.5TV powermate. Resized 125%.

Kostas this is amazing work! I have heard about this satellite but haven't seen it yet. It's incredible that you managed to capture some details, well done👍

Thanks Joe. I was surprised how bright it is and I think there is a plan to have more of these 🥲

64 square metres! Those are some big satellites. At least it will make it hard for them to launch 5000 of them like they have with the dreaded starlink.

Really good image by the way!

The fact that it's a mag ~2 is awful. Late October it will have some high passes, looks like a slower iss. Check on heavens above site.

Once again, you skill with these difficult images is amazing!

I have also just been reading about this monster. We have several passes showing on Heavens-above!

The amount of junk overhead is rather worrying.

It is. I can't usually take a DSO sub now without one or two satellite trails in them and that's with short exposures. Was nothing like this just two or three years ago. This high mag one may also present troubles removing in post process due to its brightness, imagine if there's more of them. Just because there's space up there, don't pile our rubbish up there too like we've been doing on Terra Firma.
