2024 Scotland's Autumn Galloway Premier Star Camp.

Hi everyone.

 

 

As usual I am announcing the dates as soon as practical so that people who need to give

employers very early dates for holidays can do so.

 

 

 

 

Scotland's Premier Star Camp during the Autumn (November) 2024

 

 

The Star Camp will be held at Drumroamin Camp Site.

(1 South Balfern, Kirkinner, Newton Stewart, Dumfries and Galloway, DG8 9DB.)

 

 

Between:    Wednesday 30^th October    and   Monday the 4^th November.

 

 

 

 

(The New Moon is on Friday the 1^st November)

 

 

A weekend is included this time so hopefully most people may attend if at work during the week days.

This means that observers and imagers are still able to view/image some days before

These dates for the Star Camp were picked due to several factors:

1) Likelihood of best weather combined with hours of darkness.

2) No dates available earlier in October due to Wightown Book Festival.

3) Far to close to Santa and Christmas at end of November.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The climate in Wigtown is warm and temperate but with a significant rainfall.

Even in the driest month there is a lot of rain.

This location is classified as Cfb by Köppen and Geiger.

The temperature here averages 9.1 °C | 48.4 °F. About 1346 mm | 53.0 inch of precipitation falls annually.

 

  As always those wishing to spend extra time at the Star Camp can arrange that with the owners of the site at time of booking.

Hi all any one got a spare eq8 mount, got myself a new tube but forgot to take the weight into account for my eq6, it works but might be a tad iffy on guiding, and before a certain party chips in, I know what a muppet should have checked before I bought

What you got ? The eq6 is pretty sturdy, my 9.25 EdgeHD with image train is close to but I think within its limits.

We were camping near ullswater this weekend, not quiet as dark as Lesley's and a few too many lights at the site for my liking, but still a good enough view of the milky way to point out to the wife 🌌.

Just double checked my booking with Lesley and she's confirmed pitches are still available.

Did you speak to Lesley and say you wanted to book for the Starcamp ? if you just ask for the dates she's closed to the public for us.

I'd just assumed that the site would be full at this late stage, hence my initial query for alternative locations.  Checked with Lesley as you suggested and now booked in for the Starcamp😎 It'll be my first starcamp, so be gentle lol

Are you visual or Imaging?

Either way there is plenty of help and experience among the attendees 

Just make sure you bring warm clothes as the lowest I've viewed in is -10°C up there.

Oh yes,  I did try to book on the site as a regular booking at first🤭

I do both so I'll take my mobile imaging rig and a setup for visual.  I've got a number of options fortunately🙃

Looking forward to sharing some views through the larger scopes that I expect to be there. 

Oh yes,  I have suitable clothing (hopefully)🥶

Been very busy elsewhere. So missed the posts for a month,ISH.

I see Jim and Dawn were there up until Sunday.  Hell I am just about to head home as been over at friends just south of Port Patrick for the last month..

Just spoken to Lesley at the Drumroamin Camp site.

At present there are approximately 20 pitches taken so far.

So around 5 left for this Star Camp,

(not sure as she was out and about).

 

If you want to attend, please be quick and book with Lesley ASAP, or face possible dissapointment.
