Newb and telescope orientation

Recommended Posts

Hello All

I'm a complete beginner - I've just purchased a Skyhawk 114P - On setting up with red dot etc, the strange thing i noticed was on viewing an object in the distance, the object was on its side (not upside down), but at an angle - I corrected by literally rotating the scope in the bracket, but is this really the case? Now I have the red dot finder not at the top but off to the left by about 20 degrees etc?

Thank you in advance for all your help

What you describe is normal, no cause for concern.

Finders, including red dot, Telrad, Rigel, regular optical types are not always in a convenient position. Some fit extra finders or reposition existing ones.

Or learn to live with the issues.

Ed.

Edit- BTW, welcome to SGL👍
