NGC40 close up among SNR filaments

This is a crop from the previous image of the supernova remnant CTA 1 to better show the small planetary nebula NGC40. As I mentioned the distance to CTA 1 is estimated about 4600 lightyears and its age is about 10’000 years. NGC 40 is about 3500 light years away from us and 4,500 years old. So, if the estimates are correct the PN is closer to us and not interacting with the SNR. I am not sure how much of the structures close to the PN is associated with it or just part of the SNR, but it easy too imagine that there are some shell-like structures around NGC40.

This is imaged at a focal length of 400 mm, so obviously not as detailed as some other images of NGC40 on Astrobin, but it appears to be the deepest by revealing a lot of structures in the surroundings.

Cheers, Göran
