Solar eyepiece for fl7 refractor

Hi all

I am thinking about buying a simple 4 element eyepiece for white light solar, an ortho or plossl probably.

And so now the question, what focal length would you advise for use with a fl7 refractor.

You'll want to target 50x to 90x maximum in my experience.  If you can observe very early in the morning, you might be able to go higher before the seeing becomes too unstable.

Depends on the scope’s focal length - and hence magnification, and the type of white light filter you’re using.

With decent optics and a Herschel wedge or solar film, you can get above 150x on good days. But it really depends on the scope you are using - and obviously the seeing. Plossls and orthos are both good eyepieces for solar white light.

Most times I use an Svbony 10-30 zoom in my 90mm, f5.5 WL scope and Herschal Wedge in conjunction with a #56-58 green filter sometimes. On a real bright condition I also use a variable polarizing filter quite often. Play around, mix and match its fun / enjoyable.
