Those Pretty Telescopes

For sure, considered as a 6" telescope the cost is downright silly, but for someone who has loadsamoney and is looking for an unusual garden sculpture, it could be very attractive.

I'd buy it, even at that price, if I had the money.

Could see this scope design being unmercifully ripped to shreds over on CN 😂😂

Lack of provision for rear cooling, that focusser (yuk!), secondary collimation, looks like vibration suppression would be a nightmare, no provision for a shroud for body heat elimination from light path, etc... It would want to come with a Zambuto 🤣

Give me a SW 250px anyday!

This is winning for me.  Got a very cassette punk aesthetic to it (think steam punk, but 1980s rather than 1880's).

Very elegantly designed but also brutally efficient.  Marvelous.

I was thinking it could be part radiogram, a can of pledge and a duster to polish it.  But also looks like it could be mounted on a steam/or sailing ship.

Just tell them, it was designed by Russell W Porter. 'nuff said.

I'm sure the thread was intended to show 'pretty telescopes' rather than every scope you own :wink2:

Back on topic, how about these:

You've got to love a classical Cassegrain. Available up to f20 too - what an incredible planetary scope. The 400mm at f20 could do x250 with a 32mm eyepiece  Or image at prime focus. Long waiting list though :sad2:

Nice, in a Meccano sort of way 😂

Who says Tak’s are ugly? maybe a little surgical but then again, telescopes are instruments designed for a practical purpose with visual appeal being of least concern, I think my sample is very pretty, actually.

Prettiest so far. Something about the TSA green logo, plate accompanying the traditional Tak green paint. Lovely ❤️

I love the look of the Tak's.  I doubt i'll ever own one given my circumstances, but i'm not sure anyone could describe them as 'ugly'.

I feel like there's something a little bit classy about branding with a minimalist aesthetic like that.  Even more so with a specialist product where the prospective buyer knows that the quality of the telescope will speak for itself, and therefore there's no need for it's branding to shout at you.

On another note, thank you @DaveS for that link on page 1.  I've never seen a scope remotely like that before.  You are correct, it's beautiful; but it also gives me HR Giger/Alien franchise vibes..

Some pretty Vixens on show, past and present, and a couple of Taks for good measure. (Who ever thinks Takahashi scopes are ugly needs to visit Specsavers) 🤣

Back in 1985 while working on a construction project at the Mt. Wilson Observitory, I had the opportunity to view through a Questar 7 one evening; and I said to myself, " someday ".  🤔

Fast forward 25 years, I had retired, and " someday  " had finally arrived.  🙂

Looking through this beautiful assortment of telescopes on this thread, i asked myself  "what no Questars" ?   BUT THEN I FOUND IT ☺️

Its just a beautiful work of art isn't it ??
