1000D or 40D

If I decide to go for a modified DSLR what do I gain with the 40D over the 1000D? I intend to use the camera in an observatory and operate through the computer. I have little grasp as yet of DSLR imaging so your help would be very welcome.

The 40D is a 14bit camera so it will have greater dynamic range. The 40D also has a larger 3 inch display. There are other advantages of the 40D but they are only relevant to normal photography.

Sitting In between the 1000D and the 40D you have the 450D....
